HOLIDAY ART WINNER TO BE UNVEILED

You are invited to view the entries to this year’s Holiday Art Competition at a reception at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center on Wednesday, December 1st from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Come and see if you can pick the winner, before the official announcement is made!

The theme of this prestigious competition is “The Holidays in Historic Frederick.” The winning artist will receive a $1,000 cash prize, and their artwork will be used for the 2005 holiday season posters, ornaments, postcards, and other promotional materials.

Nationally published artist Marilyn Henry, Frederick County Public Schools Print Media director Jose Rosapepe, and national award-winning artist Paul Wilson will have the tough job of judging this year’s entries. Mayor Jennifer Dougherty and event chairman Barbara Maghan will announce the winner at 6 p.m.

Ellen Byrne, last year’s contest winner, will be on hand to sign her poster, titled “ Now and Then.” In addition, the street scene of downtown Frederick in the poster have been reproduced to create a 24K gold overlay holiday ornament that will also be for sale.

These events would not be possible without the hard work of the volunteers of the Holiday Committee, and the following community-minded businesses: Gold Sponsors - BB&T, Bechtel Foundation, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Drees Homes, Farmers & Mechanics Bank and Sandy Spring Bank; Silver Sponsors - Bank One, CitiMortgage and The Frederick News Post; Bronze Sponsors - Cellular One, Chessie Federal Credit Union and the Frederick Arts Council.

The Delaplaine Center is located at 40 S. Carroll Street in Frederick. For more information on the Holiday Art Competition, please call The City of Frederick Office of Special Events at 301-228-2844 or visit our web site at www.HolidaysInFrederick.com.
