NORTH MARKET STREET TRAFFIC CHANGES

Frederick, Md. --- After months of discussion with the residents of North Market Street the City of Frederick began implementing changes to the existing traffic operation on North Market Street, between 7th and 9th Streets.

In response to neighborhood concerns regarding speed and safety along this stretch of North Market Street, the City will be closing the left hand lane northbound to through traffic as a result of a recommendation by the Streets and Sanitation Committee.

Motorists will see a permanent change in traffic operation within the next two weeks. If City crews do not encounter any weather delays this project may be completed by week's end.

Changes will include:
· Install Do Not Pass signs
· Install Left Lane Closed sign on North Market Street directly after 7th Street turn.
· Relocation of the barrier from 9th Street to 7th Street.
· North Market Street from 7th to 9th Street will become one thru lane of traffic.
· A left turn only lane will be created approximately 150 feet back from 9th Street.
· Overhead signage will be installed indicating new lane changes from the north and south.
· Parking will be created on both sides of the street.

The combination of all these elements will narrow the travel lane thereby encouraging motorists to slow down.

For additional information please contact the City's Department of Engineering at 301-600-1405.
