CITY OF FREDERICK WELCOMES SPRING 04 STUDENT LIAISION TO THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN

Frederick, Md. --- The City of Frederick would like to welcome Christina Hawkins, a senior at Governor Thomas Johnson High School, as the new Student Liaison to the City of Frederick Board of Aldermen.

Hawkins was selected by a committee of teachers after an application process to represent the school. She is very active both in her school community as well as the community at large, participating in activities including: St. Paul's Youth Group, Youth Republicans of Frederick County, Student Government Association, Humane Society of Frederick County volunteer, and French Club. She has also been on the Governor Thomas Johnson High School Junior Varsity and Varsity Volleyball Team, Varsity Lacrosse, and Frederick Area Volleyball Organization.

Hawkins hopes to attend the University of Maryland and major in Criminal Justice.

Hawkins term will end in June of 2004. At that point a new student liaison to the Board of Aldermen will be named for the fall 2004 semester.

The student liaison to the Board of Aldermen will be required to attend 75% of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen Workshops and Public Meetings, as well as be a City of Frederick resident. The student liaison will be permitted to participate in debate only during Workshops, however not at Public Meetings (with exception of during public comment process). The student liaison will also be excluded from attending closed or executive sessions.

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen are very pleased to have her on board.
