CITY
RECEIVES TREE CITY USA GROWTH AWARD
Frederick, Md. --- The National Arbor Day Foundation
has named Frederick a Tree City USA. This is the 24th
year Frederick has received this national recognition.
The City also is the recipient of a Tree City USA Growth
award. The award is presented to City's who demonstrate
progress in their community forestry program in the
following areas: education and public relations, continuing
education for tree workers and continuing education
for tree managers. It was created to recognize environmental
improvement and higher levels of tree care in the Tree
City USA communities.
To
become a Tree City USA, a community must meet four standards:
a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a
comprehensive community forestry program, and an observance
of Arbor Day.
The
National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the
National Association of State Foresters and the USDDA
Forest Service sponsors the Tree City USA program.
