MEDIA ADVISORY

Mayor: Jennifer P. Dougherty

RUNWAY 5/23 REHABILITATION PROJECT UPDATE

The Phase V portion of the Runway 5/23 project was shut down last November 21, 2003 to enable the Airport to have the runway available during the winter and early spring months. We made the decision to wait until June 2004 to re-start Phase V to take advantage of longer day light hours and consistently warmer temperatures, which are more favorable to asphalt paving operations. Also, April and May usually are wetter periods, which stop pavement work.

We plan to re-start the Runway 5/23 Rehabilitation project on Monday, June 7, 2004. The runway will be officially NOTAMED closed at 0900 hours on June 7, 2004 until further notice. The expected duration of the runway closure for rehabilitation work is July 28, 2004 or weather permitting sooner. Runway 12/30 (3,600’ X 75’) will remain open and operational during the construction period. Any exceptions will be NOTAMED accordingly. Those tenants and operators of jet powered aircraft who cannot use Runway 12/30 during the 5/23 closure period should plan to move their aircraft out of the Airport before 0900 on June 7, 2004.

FAA will NOTAM the ILS out of service during the construction. Meanwhile, we will continue to complete the final items on FAA’s punch list to satisfy the various FAA Airways Facility Divisions.

If you have any questions, please call Charlie Abell, Airport Manager, at 301-846-2201.
