CITY
OF FREDERICK TO BEGIN INSTALLATION OF SCHOOL CROSSING
SIGNAL AT THE INTERSECTION
OF NORTH EAST AND EAST 16TH STREETS
Frederick,
Md. --- Please be advised that the City of Fredericks
Department of Public Works will begin installation of
a school crossing signal at the intersection of North
East and East 16th Streets on July 1st. This project
is estimated to be complete by August 15, 2004 (weather
permitting). The intersection will provide enhanced
safety to schoolchildren walking through the intersection.
Pedestrians
and travelers can expect to see work including: 1) erecting
a signal pole at the southwest corner of the intersection
with flashing amber lights and reflective school
crossing signs that extend out into the intersection,
2) adding roadway markings and signage to allow for
a right-turn-only lane on northbound North East Street
(turning from N. East onto E. 16th), 3) installing new
roadway centerline markings along N. East St., and 4)
installing roadway markings on N. East and E. 16th Streets
for pedestrian crosswalks.
There
will be minor disruptions to normal traffic flow through
the intersection of North East and East 16th Streets
as traffic is diverted around specific work areas within,
and around, the intersection.
