BOARD OF ALDERMEN REVISE
CODE TO
REFLECT NEW PARKING FEES/RATES
Frederick, Md. --- At tonight’s Mayor and Board of
Aldermen Public Meeting several code revisions were approved which will take
effect on July 1, 2004 surrounding parking in the downtown area. These changes are part of the overall parking plan and designed to make parking more
equitable for all while making more parking available for the downtown
customer.

Chapter 13 of the
Code of the City of Frederick entitled “Motor Vehicles and Traffic”, section
13-21 entitled “Impoundment of Vehicles Improperly Parked, Abandoned, Etc.” was
amended. This change will allow
vehicles with five unpaid parking tickets to be considered a scofflaw and allow
the vehicles to be towed for the unpaid parking tickets. This will become effective July 1,
2004. This section previously allowed
10 unpaid parking tickets before towing.
Also adopted was a
Resolution to revise the listing of metered zones according to the City code
and allow for the addition of metered zones in the 100 block of East Church
Street and the first block of east All Saints Street from North Market Street
to the Optimist Lot.
Another adopted
Resolution revised the listing of two-hour parking areas according to the City
code and allows for the addition of a designated two-hour parking area in the 200
block of West Second Street from Memorial Parkway to College Avenue, on the
south side.
Finally, a purchase
order in the amount of $153,700 was approved for issuance to MacKey Meters,
Inc., for the purchase of 1,000 new electronic parking meters for the downtown
area. This purchase was also a part of
the Final Report, Downtown Frederick Needs Assessment, Recommendations and
Implementation Plan dated March 12, 2003.
Approved and adopted by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen on June 19,
2003.
