FREDERICK’S 4th - AN INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
COMPLETE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Plan to spend Independence Day in Frederick’s Baker Park for the 21st Anniversary of Frederick’s 4th - An Independence Day Celebration on Sunday, July 4th! Celebrate with four stages of live musical entertainment, amusements, children’s activities, fabulous food and spirits, and a spectacular fireworks display beginning at dusk (approx. 9 PM).

Frederick County Transit will provide FREE shuttle service from the Thomas Johnson High School parking lot to the corner of Bentz and Second Streets. A second shuttle will run from Harry Grove Stadium to the corner of Bentz and Second Streets. This location places you right in the heart of the festivities! The shuttle buses are handicap accessible. The shuttle service will leave Thomas Johnson High School every ½ hour beginning at 11:30 a.m. and the last shuttle will leave Baker Park at 11:00 p.m. The service will leave Harry Grove Stadium every ½ hour beginning at noon, and the last shuttle will leave Baker Park at 10:45 p.m.

The celebration begins at Noon. Following is a complete schedule of events:

Amusements include a moon bounce, Titanic slide, gladiator jousts, Winston the Whale, pony rides and more. Plus there will be craft activities for the children. Some crafters charge a nominal fee with partial proceeds benefiting Frederick’s 4th! $

Children are encouraged to make their own, unique PB&J creation! Chocolate chips, candies, marshmallows, sprinkles and a variety of breads are just a few of the ingredients that will make up the fun recipes! FREE! Special thanks to the Frederick Jaycees.

Chili Cook-off begins at 8:30 a.m. with judging at 2:30 p.m. Great prizes will be offered with the Grand Prize Winner receiving a Mountain Weekend Get-Away for two at Seven Spring Resort valued at $700 courtesy of Oldies 106.9! All five Frederick aldermen will be this year’s judges! Try each recipe and see if you agree with the judge’s decision! $. Proceeds benefit a local charity.

PIE EATING CONTEST Sponsored by Oldies 106.9
Corner of College Ave. and Fleming Ave. under the tent
Pie eating contest begins at 1:30 p.m. and is judged by how fast you can eat a delicious cherry pie. You must be 18 years or older to participate. Great prizes!

SWIMMING
Edward P. Thomas Jr. Municipal Pool

12:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Take a refreshing dip at the Edward P. Thomas Jr. Municipal Pool during Frederick’s 4th. $2 for children 12 and under who are city residents, $3 for non-city residents. Adult price is $4 for city residents, $6 for non-city residents. The pool is open daily until Labor Day. $

EVENING ACTIVITIES

BEST PATRIOTIC DRESSED COMPETITION Hosted by KEY 103.1
Bandshell
5:15 p.m.
Put on your best red, white and blue and strut your stuff at the bandshell for the 4th Annual Best Patriotic Dressed Competition. People’s Choice will determine who looks the most patriotic in the following categories: Baby (ages 2 and under), Children (ages 3 to 7), Youth (ages 8 to 11), Young Adult (ages 12 to 17), and Adult (ages 18 and up). Great prizes for the winners and surprises for all participants!

GLOW NECKLACES
Dusk
The Frederick Jaycees will be selling glow necklaces throughout the park beginning early evening and continuing until the fireworks. Be sure to get a gleaming gem for the whole family. $

FIREWORKS - approx. 9pm
Carillon area of park
What would July 4th be without fireworks? Don’t miss this year’s spectacular display, and be sure to tune in to KEY 103.1 to hear patriotic music while you watch the fireworks light up the sky! Magicians and jugglers Mark Lohr, Kevin Brown and Cecil the Clown will wander through the Carillon and Fleming Avenue areas, bringing their special brand of fun to entertain your family from 6 p.m. until the display begins.

CARILLON CONCERT
Immediately after the fireworks, carillonneur John Widmann will play patriotic music on the Joseph Dill Baker Carillon. The carillon is an instrument of 49 bells played mechanically with fists and feet. Baker Park’s carillon is one of only two in the entire state of Maryland.

The City of Frederick has an ordinance that prohibits pets at this event.
