UPDATE
ON THE PATRICK AND COURT STREET WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT
PROJECT
Frederick,
Md. --- The City of Frederick will begin a major water
main replacement project late this summer that will
impact travelers in the downtown. The purpose of this
project is to replace deteriorated 4, 6
and 8 mains along West Patrick and South Court
Streets with new 8 and 16 pipes. The overall
goals of this project are to improve water pressure
for new construction in the downtown district, improve
water quality, and provide the ability to convey larger
quantities of water from the Potomac River when that
project comes online.
The
following is a summary of what travelers and pedestrians
should expect in the
months to come:
Construction activity will begin on or around September
1st.
Expect one lane of vehicular traffic Monday - Friday,
7 a.m. - 8 p.m., on West Patrick Street from Court Street
to Bentz Street. Weekend work is currently not planned
or scheduled; however this could change if emergencies
arise.
Expect construction equipment to operate during the
13-hour workday timeframe. This equipment will result
in noise, light dust and activity.
Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on both sides
of the streets at all times.
Businesses and residences may experience short interruptions
in water service, up to one hour, while new water mains
are tied in.
There will be visible temporary water mains in and/or
on street gutters.
Water users may experience possible sediment visible
in water supply during main changeovers. If this occurs,
simply run faucets to clear.
Work on West Patrick Street will begin at Court Street
and work towards Bentz Street. This phase will be known
as Phase 1a and it will last approximately six weeks.
Depending on the duration of work on Phase 1a, the City
may begin work on Court Street. This work, from Patrick
Street toward Carroll Creek, will be known as Phase
1b. The City expects this phase to last approximately
three weeks.
In any event this project will be finished for the winter
during the first week of November 2004 and resume in
Spring 2005.
