SWING IS KING AT JULY 11TH
Summer Concert Series SHOW
Make sure you bring your dancing shoes to this week’s Summer Concert Series performance, as Radio King Orchestra is taking the stage on in Frederick’s Baker Park Sunday, July 11th. The group will take you back to the era of big bands, supper clubs and swing dances. The performance begins at 7 PM, and is preceded by a carillon concert that begins at 6:15 PM.
Radio King Orchestra recreates the rich sophistication of the 1940’s big band greats and the carefree nature of the 1950’s Rat Pack. Comprised of the finest musicians in the Washington metropolitan area, RKO creates an enchanting evening of entertainment, as they work their way through the repertoire of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and Bobby Darin, to name a few. The group has played at the Kennedy Center Concert Stage, and the Millenium Stage in Washington D.C., and on the NBC show “The West Wing.” The group’s music and style is sure to entice you to go from being the listener to a dancer!
Don’t miss the carillon concert that starts at 6:15 PM. Carilloneur Daniel Kerry Kehoe will take a turn with the bells. His 25-year career playing the bells includes appointment as the first carillonneur of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and two albums of carillon music. In fact both of his daughters are learning to play the carillon!
While the event is free, the Summer Concert Series Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission to support the Frederick City Community Action Agency Food Bank.
This event would not be possible without the generous financial contributions made by the following community-minded businesses: Gold Sponsors -Ausherman Homes, BB&T, Bechtel Foundation, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Farmers and Mechanics Bank, and Sandy Spring Bank; Silver Sponsors - Bank One, CitiMortgage, and The Frederick News-Post; Bronze Sponsors - Cellular One, Chessie Federal Credit Union and the Frederick Arts Council.
