CITY REACTS TO STATE FARM INSURANCE DECISION
Frederick, Md. --- Today State Farm Insurance Companies announced that over the next two and a half years they will consolidate their underwriting functions to the Charlottesville Operations Center resulting in a reduction of Frederick staff by approximately 400 to 500. The news was received by the City of Frederick Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty with mixed reaction. “While I am pleased that State Farm will continue to have a local presence here in Frederick with its Operations Center, it is unfortunate that the national climate has had an impact on jobs here at a local level,” stated Mayor Jennifer Dougherty. “We look forward to a stronger national economy which will hopefully expand of our local job base within the City of Frederick.”
Richard Griffin, director of the City of Frederick’s department of economic development, stated that the City would work diligently with State Farm officials to assist in the business realignment and make the transition as smooth as possible for the company and their employees. He added, "State Farm has been and will continue to be a great asset for the Frederick community. In the long term, we hope to see State Farm prosper and eventually grow the Claims Division here in Frederick."
