RE: July 18th Summer Concert Series Performance

Summer Concert Series Goes South of the Border on July 18th

This week’s Summer Concert Series performance will take you south of the border in style as Patrick Alban & Noche Latina take the stage in Frederick’s Baker Park on Sunday, July 18th. The group is sure to bring out your Latin blood. The performance begins at 7 PM, preceded by a carillon concert that starts at 6:15 PM.
Patrick Alban & Noche Latina's music today is a combination of Latin and acoustic rock with a touch of salsa and a South Beach feel. His repertoire includes Brazilian sambas, Cuban music, tangos, boleros, salsa, blues, Gypsy Kings, and The Buena Vista Social Club, just to name a few. His talents for musical language include singing in English, Spanish, Gypsy and Portuguese. Recently nominated for an award for “Best Latin Group” by the Washington Area Music Association, the group has played at the Kennedy Center. Patrick Alban & Noche Latina also played at the annual IN THE STREET festival in 2003, and was a huge hit with the crowd in downtown Frederick. They are an international experience not to be missed!
Don’t miss the carillon concert that starts at 6:15 PM. Frederick’s very own city carilloneur John Widmann will play the bells. There’s a good chance you’ve heard him before as he has been the city carilloneur for 12 years, and plays recitals every Sunday at noon. During the week he works as the chorus and general music teacher at St. John Regional Catholic School in Frederick, and teaches piano, voice, carillon and organ privately.
While the event is free, the Summer Concert Series Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission to support the Frederick City Community Action Agency Food Bank.
This event would not be possible without the generous financial contributions made by the following community-minded businesses: Gold Sponsors -Ausherman Homes, BB&T, Bechtel Foundation, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Farmers and Mechanics Bank, and Sandy Spring Bank; Silver Sponsors - Bank One, CitiMortgage, and The Frederick News-Post; Bronze Sponsors - Cellular One, Chessie Federal Credit Union and the Frederick Arts Council.
