CITY
OF FREDERICK'S EDUCATION COMMISSION ANNOUNCES GRANT
RECIPIENTS
Frederick,
Md. --- The City of Frederick's Education Commission
would like to announce that seven programs have been
approved to receive full or partial funding for proposed
programs designed to enhance achievement for students
from the City of Frederick.
The
following schools received partial grant funding:
· Parkway Elementary School PTA was awarded partial
funding to be used for scholarships. At-risk students
will be able to attend a Hands On Science Outreach.
· Monocacy Elementary School will use their funds
to purchase books for their city students as part of
a yearlong effort to foster reading skills.
· West Frederick Middle School will also be buying
books. This school hopes to enhance their collection
of multicultural library materials with their partial
grant funding.
· At Governor Thomas Johnson High School, the
Success 2000 and Beyond cultural diversity club will
receive partial grant funding for their focus to improve
academic achievement.
The following schools or programs received full funding:
· English as a Second Language will be the focus
of the grant to North Frederick Elementary School, as
their request for help to fund their ESL Homework Club
was fully funded.
· The Police Activity League will receive full
funding to partner with Frederick County Public Libraries
to promote life-long literacy.
· Finally, the West Frederick Learning for Life
Program was awarded the full request for their program
to give students community experiences to use their
functional reading, writing and math skills

requests were received by the Education Commission.
A total of $5,000 will be divided amongst the grant
recipients.
The
City's Education Commission wishes to extend congratulations
