LEARN TO SWING DANCE AT THE ANNUAL
HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS DANCE

Don’t miss one of Frederick’s most popular holiday events, the Home for the Holidays Dance, on Saturday, December 18th. The wildly popular Tuxedo Park Orchestra promises a night of fun with great dance tunes from the era when swing was king. Frederick City Alderman Bill Hall will make a special guest appearance with the band for a number. Doors open at 6:30 PM at the William Talley Recreation Center, located at 121 North Bentz Street. The band will play from 8 PM until midnight, and there will be great door prizes and FREE swing dance lessons!
The Tuxedo Park Orchestra features a dynamic stage show, and a rousing set of American music inspired by the swing, jazz and blues sounds of small swing bands from the 1940’s and 1950’s. The band includes Frederick resident and recording artist Michele Ryehill as lead vocalist. Ms. Ryehill will also perform one of her hits from her newly recorded album “Lookin’ Up”. You may have heard of the orchestra from the opening ceremony of the Washington D.C. Convention Center, or the 2002 Summer Concert Series in Baker Park. They have a huge following among dance fans, and you’re sure to become a fan too!
Afraid you don’t know how to dance to that kind of music? There will be free swing dance lessons from 7 to 8 PM. Then you can put your new skills to good use from 8 PM to midnight when the band kicks into gear.
You won’t want to miss the great door prizes this year. You can win a carriage ride in downtown historic Frederick plus two tickets to the national tour of “Porgy and Bess” at the Weinberg Center, or a carriage ride and two tickets to hear the Radio King Orchestra at the Weinberg Center, or movie passes for ten to the Weinberg!
This event would not be possible without the hard work of the volunteers of the Holiday Dance Committee, and the following community-minded businesses: Gold Sponsors - BB&T, Bechtel Foundation, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Drees Homes, Farmers & Mechanics Bank and Sandy Spring Bank; Silver Sponsors - Bank One, CitiMortgage and The Frederick News Post; Bronze Sponsors - Cellular One, Chessie Federal Credit Union and the Frederick Arts Council.
Tickets for the dance are $30 per person, with an additional $50 to reserve a table for eight. You can buy tickets at Molly’s Meanderings at 17 N. Market Street, The Muse, at 19 N. Market Street, or at the City of Frederick’s Office of Special Events, located in the William Talley Recreation Center. For tickets, table reservations, or for more information, please call 301-228-2844 or visit www.HolidaysinFrederick.com.
