SUMMER CONCERT SERIES WELCOMES WPG TRIO TO
FREDERICK’S BAKER PARK
A mix of funk, r&b, and jazz will fill Baker Park this Sunday, August 22nd, as the WPG Trio take over Summer Concert Series. With a sound that is both unique and refreshing, Blues Webb, Benjie Porecki and Gary Grainger are sure to have concertgoers dancing in the aisles. A Carillon concert beginning at 6:15 PM precedes the main performance. Come early, bring a blanket and friends, and purchase snacks from the concessionaires to enjoy a relaxing evening of live entertainment.
Renowned drummer and vocalist, Andre “Blues” Webb brings both experience and passion to this talented trio. Having played since the age of four, Blues distinguishes himself with his ability to hold a strong groove, and then to turn around and display monstrous chops. Pianist Benjie Porecki has two records under his belt, both featuring his soulful and energetic approach to music. Since joining WPG Trio in 1998, Porecki has added depth and foundation to the group’s funky style. Rounding out the group is bass player Gary Grainger. Called both the most tasteful and the funkiest bass player around, Gary has appeared on countless recording dates, TV, and is known to leave audiences with their mouths hanging open after a live performance.
Individually, each member of this gifted trio could front his own band, but when the three play together it is a lethal mix. Combining funky cover interpretations and originals, WPG Trio is guaranteed to get you out of your seat and moving.
While the concert is free, the Summer Concert Series Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission to support the Frederick City Community Action Agency Food Bank.
This event would not be possible without the generous financial contributions made by the following community-minded businesses: Gold Sponsors -Ausherman Homes a Drees Homes Company, BB&T, Bechtel Foundation, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Farmers and Mechanics Bank, and Sandy Spring Bank; Silver Sponsors - Bank One, CitiMortgage, and The Frederick News-Post; Bronze Sponsors - Cellular One, Chessie Federal Credit Union and the Frederick Arts Council.
