THE UNITED STATES ARMY CONCERT BAND
TO PERFORM ON AUGUST 24TH

The U.S. Army Concert Band will perform at the Baker Park bandshell on Tuesday, August 24th at 7 PM. The concert is free as part of the 2004 Summer Concert Series.
The band is the same great group that plays on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, or on the grounds of the Ellipse near the White House in Washington D.C.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the Weinberg Center for the Arts, 20 West Patrick Street, Frederick.
Come hear your favorite patriotic and march songs played by a band with an international reputation for extraordinary musicianship. In an effort to promote international goodwill, the 65-piece traditional concert band has performed joint concerts with the Soviet Army, the Russian Navy and the Ukrainian Navy. Concert Band musicians, many with Bachelor’s and Masters degrees in their instruments, have appeared in military tattoos in Sweden, Holland, Norway, Australia and Japan.
Captain Derrick N. Shaw, the Director of the United States Army Ceremonial Band in Washington, D.C., will serve as the Conductor to the performance that evening.
Make sure you come early for the carillon concert at 6:30 PM. Frederick’s carillon is one of only two in the state.
The Summer Concert Series Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission to the performance. Non-perishable items such as canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, cereal, rice and pastas are requested. All items collected benefit the Frederick City Community Action Agency Food Bank.
In the event of inclement weather, please tune to 99.9 WFRE, 103.1 WAFY or 106.9 WARX for news of event cancellation. Due to the travel time and set-up by various artists and the sound production company, decisions regarding weather are made by 4:00 PM. Therefore, if the weather is inclement at this time, listen to the radio for confirmation of the evening’s performance being cancelled.
The 2004 Summer Concert Series is a sub-committee of Cultural Events for Educating Frederick, Inc., who is supported financially by the following community-minded businesses: Gold Sponsors -Ausherman Homes a Drees Homes Company, BB&T, Bechtel Foundation, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Farmers and Mechanics Bank, and Sandy Spring Bank; Silver Sponsors - Bank One, CitiMortgage, and The Frederick News-Post; Bronze Sponsors - Cellular One, Chessie Federal Credit Union, and the Frederick Arts Council.
