MONOCACY
VILLAGE PARK SCHEDULED TO RECEIVE TWO NEW PEDESTRIAN
BRIDGES
Frederick,
Md. --- The City of Frederick's Department of Public
Works is scheduled to install two new pedestrian bridges
at Monocacy Village Park in early October. The old bridges
are being replaced due to metal fatigue. This would
eventually render the existing bridges unsafe.
The
new bridges meet all modern bridge design and safety
criteria and are constructed to maximize durability
and minimize maintenance. The steel members have a special
finish that weathers to a natural earth brown finish
and does not require painting. The wooden planks and
railings are constructed of a type of wood commonly
referred to as "Ironwood." The Romans used
this wood for their chariots, and it actually rivals
steel in strength and in its ability to resist strain.
Installation
of the two new pedestrian bridges at the Monocacy Village
Park is set to occur between October 1 - 7, depending
on when ground conditions are suitable for use of heavy
equipment.
Monocacy
Village Park recently received a new picnic pavilion
and new playground equipment. The parking lot will also
soon be expanded.
