CITY
OF FREDERICK ASSESSES DAMAGES FROM ISABEL
Frederick,
Md. --- Hurricane Isabel has come and left the City
of Frederick. Fortunately the storm moved west and the
City was spared from more significant effects. At 6:30
a.m., today, Friday, September 19, a total rainfall
measurement of 1.75 inches was collected at the Wastewater
Treatment Plant.
Power
Outages
There are many areas in the City of Frederick without
power. According to Allegheny Power over 24,500 homes
and businesses are without power in Frederick County
approximately 2,500 are without power in the City. Another
19,000 are without power in Mt. Airy. Allegheny Power
is working to restore power in all areas. If you need
to report a downed power line or a loss of power contact
Allegheny Power at 1-800-255-3443. Allegheny Power anticipates
power to be restored to all customers by 8 p.m. on Tuesday,
September 23.
Streets that are currently without power include: Wilson
Place - Grant Place - a portion of 7th Street - a portion
of South Street from Carroll Street to Hamilton - East
Street from South Street to the Coca Cola Plant - Monocacy
Village - Amber Meadows - Carrolton Drive - Wyngate
Drive - Braddock Avenue - Motter Avenue between 9th
and 10th Streets.
Red
Cross Emergency Shelter
The American Red Cross has a shelter open at Frederick
Community College. This shelter will remain open until
Saturday morning. At this time there is no plan for
additional shelters to open. Questions should be directed
to the Red Cross at 301-662-5131.
Parking
Restrictions
Effective at 12 p.m. today, Friday, all parking restrictions
in the City will be lifted. Also, all three parking
decks will resume normal operating procedures. Therefore,
if you parked your vehicle in any of the three parking
decks during the storm, and you do not hold a monthly
parking deck pass, please move your vehicle prior to
12 p.m.
Road
Closures
There are currently only two road closures within the
City of Frederick - 900 block of Motter Avenue and North
College Avenue.
Trash
Collection Services
Trash collection in the City will resume its normal
schedule effective Saturday. Therefore, citizens who
normally place trash out on Friday evening for Saturday
collection should do so. Residents who missed collection
on Friday should place trash out on the next regularly
scheduled collection date.
Traffic
Signals
Please note that there are many traffic signals out
within the City. Please proceed with caution.
Fallen
Trees and Tree Limbs
Significant damage was caused by this storm to trees
throughout the City. Property owners are asked to report
fallen trees, tree limbs and tree branches to the Department
of Public Works, 301-600-1440. The City will only collect
trees that have fallen in public right-of-ways. City
crews will not go onto private property. The City will
have a Special Tree Collection once the Department of
Public Works has been able to clear right-of-ways. Please
do not block right-of-ways.
Time
and dates of the Special tree Collection have not yet
been determined. In anticipation of the special collection,
property owners may place downed branches and trees
curbside over the weekend. Branches and trees must be
cut in sections of 4 feet or less in order for the City
to collect them in this special collection. Branches
and trees larger than 4 feet will not be collected.
Large trees (greater than 12 inches in diameter) should
be handled through your homeowners insurance.
