COUNTDOWN
TO IN THE STREET
The
countdown to the 21st Anniversary of IN THE STREET has
begun and its just weeks away! Mark your calendars
now for a full day of fun and entertainment on Saturday,
October 4, 2003. This free event will be held on Market
Street from Carroll Creek to 7th Street as a way to
continue to celebrate the revitalization of historic
downtown Frederick, Maryland.
Festivities
begin at 8:30 AM with the Steeplechasers Mile foot race
down Market Street. There are separate races for corporate
teams, non-competitive, womens, mens and
children under 13. For race information, contact Brent
Ayer, Race Director, at 301-473-7868.
Stepping-off
at 10:30 AM is the IN THE STREET Parade. Focusing on
the theme of A Simple Thank You - Honoring Those
Who Serve, this years parade is sure to
bring out the patriot in all of us. Created in partnership
with Fort Detrick, you wont want to miss marching
bands, Army HUMMVs, and creatively decorated floats.
Keep an eye out for the soldiers and civilians wearing
white ribbons; theyve just returned from active
duty overseas. The parade route begins at Thomas Johnson
High School, moves south on Market Street and turns
west on Second Street heading to Baker Park where the
parade concludes.
The
IN THE STREET Festival kicks off at Noon with eight-city
blocks of free fun for the entire family. New block
themes this year include International Block and Charity
Block. Plus, as always, you can count on Arts Block,
Kids Block, Health & Fitness Block, and Sports
Block. And dont forget six stages of live musical
entertainment! Also enjoy downtown merchant activities
including a Fashion Show by Velvet Lounge and Twisted
Twill on the 2nd Street Stage at 12 PM. Plus beer sampling,
strolling entertainment, paddleboat rides and so much
more!
But
the fun does not end! After the festival, be sure to
get your ticket to ON THE DECK. This party atop the
Carroll Creek Parking Deck features live entertainment
by The Reagan Years, light bar and refreshments! Tickets
are available at the door for $5 per person. (21 years
of age and older.)
