Posting
of Colors outside of City Hall for 9-11 Memorial tree
Planting Ceremony, Thursday, September 11, 2003, 8:30
a.m.

City
of Frederick citizens, elected officials, students and
city staff gathered for a simple tree planting ceremony
to honor the memory of those lost on September 11th
2001.

At Mayor Jennifer Dougherty's invitation, about 20 students
from St. John Regional Catholic School, under the director
of music teacher Ms. Linda Amato, opened the ceremony
with a beautiful rendition of God Bless America.

On
the second anniversary of 9-11, we stand united as a
community.

Reflections
from the steps of City Hall.

Mayor
Jennifer Dougherty addresses the crowd and thanks those
who have gathered.
The
voices of St. John Regional Catholic School closed the
memorial ceremony with the powerful song, Proud to
be An American.

As
our community mourns the second anniversary of the terrorist
attacks that took place on September 11th 2001, the
City of Frederick planted a Magnolia grandiflora
'Bracken's Brown Beauty' also called Brown Beauty Southern
Magnolia. When City staff arrived to set up for today's
ceremony, it was discovered that one single blossom
on the Magnolia tree had bloomed.
