BOARD
OF ALDERMEN TO EXPAND IN NOVEMBER
Frederick,
Md. --- The Board of Aldermen for the City of Frederick
voted four in favor and one abstaining to approve the
addition of a non-voting student liaison from one of
the City's public high schools.
The
student liaison to the Board of Aldermen was a recommendation
of the Education Commission. Each year the City will
invite students from City high schools, Governor Thomas
Johnson and Frederick, who have an interest in government
service and/or the law to apply for this position. Students
will be required to fill out an application through
Human Resources, as well as write a 500-1000 word essay
on their interest in government and/or law. Qualified
candidates will be forwarded to the Education Commission
who will make the final decision.
Two
terms will run each year; September through December
and January through May.
The
student liaison to the Board of Aldermen will be required
to attend 75% of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen Workshops
and Public Meetings, as well as be a City of Frederick
resident. The student liaison will be permitted to participate
in debate only during Workshops, however not at Public
Meetings (with exception of during public comment process).
The student liaison will also be excluded from attending
closed or executive sessions.
It
is anticipated that the first student representative
on the City of Frederick's Board of Aldermen will begin
his/her tenure at the November 6th Mayor and Board of
Aldermen Public Meeting.
Interested
students should contact Eva Rosvold, director of administration
at 301-360-3838 or Vincent Hughes, chief officer of
citizen services at 301-360-3839.
