Frederick, MD. --- The Weinberg Center for the Arts will be showing Alfred Hitchcock’s movie The Lodger on October 26, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. This movie is Hitchcock’s first thriller about London’s terror when it is beset by a series of Jack-the-Ripper style murders. Everyone in London is asking: who could he be, this man with a penchant for so cruelly disposing of “golden-curled” girls? Enter the Lodger to a family home where he takes a room-for-let. He is quite, and his behavior is somewhat unusual. The Lodger requests that the paintings of golden-haired girls be removed from this room because they get on his “nerves”. Whilst in his room, he paces back and forth endlessly, and when not pacing, he sometimes slips out quietly in the dead of night. The mother of the household, Mrs. Bunting, where the Lodger is staying notices that one of the Lodger’s nocturnal excursions has coincided with yet another “Avenger” killing. The mother is doubly concerned because her fair-haired daughter, Daisy, appears to have fallen for the Lodger. Daisy’s love for the Lodger has not only worried her mother, but has also enraged Daisy’s boyfriend, who just so happens to be the police detective recently assigned to the Avenger case. The detective boyfriend allows jealousy to get the best of him and obtains an arrest warrant for the Lodger’s arrest. The police come in and handcuff the Lodger, but he is able to escape still handcuffed. The Lodger is soon tracked down by an angry mob and nearly torn to pieces. However the real Avenger is caught shortly thereafter, making way for the Lodger and Daisy to live happily-ever-after.

This movie is sure to be a hit with those who enjoy horrors and thrillers. To make sure the horror and thrills continue for movie lovers, there will be a showing of Hitchcock’s Psycho right after The Lodger.

Psycho is another Hitchcock thriller about Marion Crane who works at a Real Estate Office in Arizona. She has a sister named Lila and a boyfriend named Sam. She wants to marry Sam, but the two do not have enough money, since Sam is still paying off his ex-wife's alimony, and she has a small job at Lowery's office. One Friday, December the eleventh, a rich oil tycoon, Mr. Cassidy, comes to the office to give Lowery $40,000 to buy a house for his daughter's wedding present. Lowery asks Marion to deposit the cash and she said she would. Instead, she packs up and heads for Fairvale to see Sam, with the money in her purse. As night falls and a torrential rain obscures the road ahead of her, Marion turns off the main highway. Exhausted from the long drive and the stress of her criminal act, she decides to spend the night at the desolate Bates Motel. Norman Bates runs the motel, a peculiar young man dominated by his invalid mother. After Norman feeds Marion dinner, she goes back to her room for a shower…
