CITY
SEEKING INPUT IN COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE SCENARIOS
Frederick, Md. -- The City of Frederick is currently reviewing two growth scenarios as part of the process for updating the Comprehensive Plan. The scenarios, as well as results of the testing of these scenarios, will be presented to the public on November 12, 6 p.m., City Hall. Both scenarios are being tested for fiscal, transportation and water & sewer impacts to the City. The public is encouraged and welcome to attend and provide feedback on the proposed growth scenarios.
The Comprehensive
Plan is a guide for the City's growth and development policies and a tool to
enhance Frederick's livability and unique character. This plan must be updated
every five years. The last update to the Comprehensive Plan
was completed in 1995 and a lot has occurred in the City since then. More
than 7,000 new people have moved within the city limits, almost 4,000 new
dwellings have been built, and hundreds of new jobs have been added. The
Comprehensive Plan directs the future growth in the City because it deals with
almost every area over which the City government has control: streets, local
transportation, zoning, land use, parks, economic development, development and
growth, housing, and social services.
Citizens are encourages to attend meetings and voice opinions and views for the future growth of the City. Joe Adkins, Division Manager of Comprehensive Planning, stated, “It is inevitable that our City is going to grow. This is the time for citizens to let the Steering Committee and elected officials know which direction you’d like to see the growth.”
