CITY OF FREDERICK WATER SERVICE COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES
ADDITIONAL WATER ALLOCATIONS
Frederick, Md. --- It happened again in the City of Frederick! This week the City’s Water Service Committee was able to take additional strides in restoring development in the City of Frederick by allocating water received by the recent MDE Permanent Appropriation Permit for Well #4.
Twenty residential projects are receiving Water Service Contracts as a result of the Round Two Allocations. That equates to 521 equivalent dwelling units. Four of the projects in the Residential Allocation have been completely satisfied of their water needs. In Round One Allocations in April, 19 projects were completely satisfied of their water needs.
Also, two Institutional Development Projects under the Discretionary Allocation were satisfied; Frederick Community College and Homewood at Crumland Farms – Assisted Living Wing. One other project in this category received over 5,000gpd towards their required allocation; St. Johns Regional School and St. Katherine Drexel Church.
“I am pleased that over the past couple of months the City has been able to issue over 1,000 Water Service Contracts. This is approximately two years worth of growth in a very short period of time,” stated City of Frederick Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty. She added, “500 to 600 equivalent dwelling units is and will be the sustainable rate of residential growth for the City of Frederick!”
The City is also moving forward with hiring a consultant for our Water Optimization Study. The study will identify the City’s next interim steps leading up to the Potomac River hookup. “We still need an additional 1 to 1.5mgd to carry us for the next two to three years in order to avoid another period of limited growth within the City,” stated Dougherty.
