STREET LIGHT UPGRADES IN CITY OF FREDERICK’S WYNGATE SUBDIVISION

Frederick, Md. --- On April 17, 2003 the City of Frederick Mayor and Board of Alderman approved funding for Street Light Upgrades to the Wyngate Subdivision.  This older section of the City, located between West Patrick Street and Jefferson Street, has an outdated lighting system that has exceeded its life span.  Dry conditions last spring and summer compounded with heavy rainfall in the fall months caused the current cable system to become damp and in many instances caused shorts in the circuits.  The outdated system will be replaced with a multiple wire system, replacing all wires and cables, as well as upgrading the system from a 2400-volt system to a 240.  The average lifespan of the replacement lighting will be 30 years.

Streets to be affected by the street light upgrades include:  Wyngate Drive, Wyn Court, Midway Drive, Northside Drive, Thomas Court, and Norva Avenue.

Work will be completed in five phases, with a commencement date on or around June 1, 2003.  It is estimated this project will be completed by December 31, 2003.  In an effort to ensure public safety, the Department of Public Works will make every effort to maintain lighting on one side of each street while work proceeds ensuring that at no time will a street be completely without any street lighting.
