FAIRVIEW AVENUE BRIDGE REPAIRS

TO BEGIN IN JUNE

Frederick, Md. --- The City of Frederick will begin the overall rehabilitation of the Fairview Avenue Bridge over Carroll Creek on June 2.  This project may require single lane traffic during the last week of the 21-day process.  Originally scheduled to be completely replaced, the City took a fresh look and it was determined only repairs were necessary.  The City's bridge consultant, Associated Engineering Services Inc. (AESI), has re-inspected and re-evaluated the condition of the bridge and has concluded that the load rating can be increased to 24 tons through relatively minor rehabilitative work.  The increased load rating will serve the City’s purposes and the rehabilitation work will prolong the life of the structure for eight to 12 years, after which we will re-evaluate the need to replace the structure.

As a result, the City feels that this is the prudent way to go in these tough economic times and is confident that the $190,000 grant can be reapplied to other higher priority bridge reconstruction projects within the County.

International Restoration Services, LLC has been hired by the City to complete this project at a cost of $24,350.  A construction work schedule will be advertised shortly.
