DOWNTOWN FREDERICK STAYS OPEN LATE FOR

FIRST SATURDAY GALLERY WALK

*************Tradition Continues on April 5 *************

Downtown Frederick’s First Saturday Gallery Walk

Saturday, April 5

Building on March’s inaugural event, downtown Frederick galleries, specialty shops, and restaurants will stay open late for First Saturday Gallery Walk on April 5 until 9 p.m.  Join more than 60 galleries, shops, and restaurants as they showcase the best of Frederick’s historic downtown.

Watch an artist create a new piece of chalk art on a downtown sidewalk.  Mingle with featured guest artists and view new exhibits at galleries and art centers.  Enjoy live music and entertainment at downtown restaurants and shops.  See demonstrations of new haircuts and colors at salons.  Stroll past a performance by a street musician.  Sample light fare and sweet treats at specialty stores, and check out the new product lines for spring.

First Saturday Gallery Walk is a monthly event sponsored by Greater Frederick Development Corporation (GFDC) in cooperation with downtown merchants, the Tourism Council of Frederick County and the City’s Department of Economic Development. April Reardon, owner of the Velvet Lounge and co-chair of the GFDC Promotions Committee, comments that merchants and downtown visitors were equally thrilled with the First Saturday Gallery Walk in March. “It was a rainy night but that didn’t dampen anyone’s enthusiasm,” Reardon states. “We had a great turnout and heard lots of positive comments about all that downtown Frederick has to offer.”

“The idea for First Saturday Gallery Walk evolved from our desire to encourage more people to experience downtown Frederick,” explains Kara Norman, GFDC executive director. “The historic downtown area is fast becoming one of the region’s premier arts and entertainment districts, and First Saturday Gallery Walk is the perfect opportunity to showcase all the wonderful galleries, restaurants, and specialty stores that make downtown Frederick such a special place.”

GFDC’s Promotions Committee is planning for the annual MayFest Celebration on May 3 as well as other downtown events. For more information on these and other happenings, contact the Greater Frederick Development Corporation at 301-698-8118.
