CITY
OF FREDERICK TO ADD SEVEN NEW OFFICERS RESULTING FROM
AWARD OF COPS GRANT
Earlier
today Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty was by informed Senator
Paul Sarbanes' office that the City of Frederick's Police
Department had been awarded a total of $525,000 in grant
funding for the hiring of seven additional full-time
police officers. These grants will assist in funding
up to 75 percent of the total salaries and benefits
for police officers for the next three years.
Once
again the City of Frederick thanks Senators Paul Sarbanes
and Barbara Mikulski for their continued effort in ensuring
the health and safety of the citizens of the City of
Frederick. "This is yet around example of how working
with our elected officials helps to serve our neighborhoods
and residents," stated Mayor Jennifer Dougherty.
Chief
Kim Dine, City of Frederick's Police Department, is
a firm believer in community policing. The award of
this COPS grant will certainly help his mission. "We
are making great strides- in terms of our community
policing efforts-working with our newly formed Neighborhood
Advisory Councils (NACS), combating crime, our partnership
with the community, our interaction and partnership
with the business community, and crime prevention. With
our reemphasis on community policing, and the additional
homeland security duties, the Frederick Police Department
is very proud to be selected for this federal grant.
Seven additional full-time officers will certainly help
in the pursuit of our community policing goals."
Funding
for these seven positions comes from the Office of Community
Oriented Policing Services (COPS) under the Universal
Hiring Program (UHP) administered by the Department
of Justice.
