LEE
FORMALLY APPOINTED CITY OF FREDERICK DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING
Frederick,
Md. --- Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty officially announced
the appointment of Paul H. Lee as Director of Engineering
for the City of Frederick today. Lee, who had been serving
on an interim basis since October of 2002, recently
passed the Maryland Professional Engineer Examination.
The State of Maryland does not extend reciprocity; therefore
Lee's formal appointment could not take place until
successful completion of the State of Maryland P.E.
exam. Lee also holds a P.Eng. from Canada.
Prior
to joining the City of Frederick, Lee served the City
of Richmond, British Columbia, as Manager of Engineering
and Planning. Lee obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science
in Civil Engineering from the University of British
Columbia.
In
his role as Department Manager in the City of Frederick's
Engineering Department he will be responsible for reorganizing
and restructuring the Engineering Department which is
responsible for the delivery of the following services:
Drafting, Surveys, Land Development Servicing, Infrastructure
Planning, and Inspections.
Lee
also oversees 34 professional and technical full-time
staff in both the engineering and building divisions
of the City. "Paul is improving customer service
in his department. Project management, plan review,
staff management are skills Paul brings and like every
effective manager, he shares that skill with his staff,"
Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty commented.
In
the nine months since Lee has been with the City he
has been proven his commitment and ability. "Paul
has saved City taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars
on the Fairview Avenue Bridge by performing the proper
tests prior to the award of a construction bid. He uses
a great combination of common sense and professional
experience," Dougherty added. Lee has also worked
diligently to fulfill one of the Mayor's initial requests
to "find water". Lee has been able to make
tremendous strides in the City's pursuit of water. "The
work Paul has done with MDE on the water management
plan yielded water which allowed us to begin building
in the City once again," Dougherty stated.
She
added, "Now we are taking the next steps on identifying
future water supplies...plus, it hasn't stopped raining
since he arrived!"
Lee
holds memberships in several organizations such as:
Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists
of B.C. (A.P.E.G.B.C.), American Water Works Association,
British Columbia Water and Wastewater Association, Building
Officials Association of British Columbia (Level 2 Building
Official), and past chair of the Tri-Cities Chapter
of A.P.E.G.B.C.
