CLASSIC ‘TOONS TAKE CENTER STAGE AT WEINBERG’S
FOURTH ANNUAL FAMILY CARTOON FESTIVAL

On Friday, January 17, at 7:30 p.m., it’s fun for all ages when the Weinberg Center presents its fourth annual tribute to the golden age of animation. The Family Cartoon Festival will feature some of the most beloved cartoons from decades past and a few “lost treasures.”

Scheduled to appear in the cartoon lineup are Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and other Disney characters, as well as Popeye, Elmer Fudd, Mr. Magoo, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and all their friends. So many of these treasured cartoons have been clipped and edited for television that few people can remember ever having seen them complete. Here is the opportunity to see these cartoons unedited and on the big screen as they were created to be seen.

The Cartoon Festival will also feature some lesser-known characters from the smaller animation studios, and of course those “granddaddies” of the cartoon family-the silents-will be given musical accompaniment on the mighty Wurlitzer by organist Ray Brubacher.

The Family Cartoon Festival, presented by Dancing Bear Toys and Gifts, is the third of four events in the Weinberg’s new Family Film Series, sponsored by Sandy Spring Bank and Oldies 106.9, media presenter. The 2002-2003 LIVE! at the Weinberg Season is sponsored by Jeweled Season Presenters BB&T and Maryland Public Television, media presenter.

Tickets for Family Cartoon Festival and the final film of the series-The Wizard of Oz (1939) on February 16-are $6 each, general admission seating. To purchase tickets or receive a complete schedule of LIVE! at the Weinberg events, please visit www.weinbergcenter.org <http://www.weinbergcenter.org/> or the Box Office (301-228-2828, 228-2838 TTY). The Box Office is open Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and one hour before performances.

The Weinberg Center for the Arts, a municipal facility of the City of Frederick, is located at 20 West Patrick Street in downtown Frederick, Maryland. The historic theatre was donated to the City of Frederick in 1978. Today, as one of the region’s premier presenting facilities, the 1,160-seat Weinberg Center offers seven professional LIVE! series, including dance, music, theatre, family performances and films, weekday performances for students, and classic movies. In addition, the Weinberg Center makes performance space and professional services available to a variety of community arts groups, civic and business organizations, and other arts promoters.
