Frederick, Md. --- The City of Frederick, along with representatives of the Frederick Community Action Agency and the Friends for Neighborhood Progress, Inc., are pleased to announce the re-dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the City of Frederick Youth Center on Thursday, February 6, from 1 - 2 p.m. Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty, the Board of Aldermen, City staff, and area youth, will help re-dedicate the Youth Center following months of extensive renovations and repairs to the building and an adjacent playground. Comments by Mayor Dougherty will be followed by a keynote address given by Derrick Len Span, National President of the Community Action Partnership in Washington, D.C. Alderman Joe Baldi, Chairman of the FCAA Board, will also offer brief remarks.
Following the ceremony, the Youth Center will host an Open
House from 2 – 7 p.m. The event is free
and the public is encouraged to attend.
The City of Frederick Youth Center, now operated by the
Frederick Community Action Agency, provides a wide-array of programs and
services to assist at-risk children and youth residing in Frederick,
Maryland. Some of the programs and
services include an after-school program, a summer camp program, karate and
martial arts classes, and drug awareness programs. Renovations to the Youth Center were completed with federal
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding matched by funding from the
City of Frederick.
