FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE: Wednesday, February 19, 2003
Frederick, Md. --- Mayor Jennifer Dougherty has lifted the Snow Emergency that was placed in effect on Saturday, February 15, effective 12 p.m., today, February 19, 2003. City residents are now permitted to park on designated Snow Emergency routes. Downtown residents are allowed to park in any of the three parking decks, free of charge. Vehicles must be removed from the decks no later than 7 a.m., on Thursday, February 20. Individuals who hold a current monthly parking deck pass and are unable to find a place in the parking decks will be permitted to park in the cleared areas on Market Street, Patrick Street and 2nd Street. Residents may also use the parking lot behind the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center, located on East All Saints and East Streets.
Effective immediately through Sunday, February 22, there will be no collection of fees for parking meters citywide.
Citizens are also reminded of their responsibility to clear sidewalks from snow and ice according to Section 22-16 of the City of Frederick, Maryland Code, Titled, Removal of Snow and Ice From Sidewalks. Property owners are asked to clear a path on walkways. Fines are not being given at this time, however each walkway should have a clear path in case emergencies arise. When shoveling your sidewalks, driveways, etc., please do not place snow in the street, as the snowplows will most likely push it back onto your property. Residents are also asked to help out the fire companies by clearing the area surrounding fire hydrants.
Due to the large amounts of snow, the City will need to close streets in the downtown area for snow removal. Streets will be closed in two block intervals. Removed snow will be placed in the parking lot of the Monocacy Village Park and in the lower parking lot at Harry Grove Stadium. Please note the following street closures:
· Church Street
From East Street to Bentz Street
Wednesday, February 19, 8 p.m. through Thursday, February 20, 8 a.m.
· All Saints Street
From Carroll Street to Bentz Street

· South Street
