CITY
OF FREDERICK PREPARES RESIDENTS FOR WINTER WEATHER
Frederick,
Md. --- With predictions of winter weather in our weather
forecast, the City of Frederick wanted to alert residents
about procedures which may go into effect should the
City declare a Snow Emergency. The Department of Public
Works is responsible for coordinating the removal of
the snow and ice from the streets of the City of Frederick
to provide a safe driving surface to its users. Snow
and ice will be removed to provide bare, uncovered asphalt
upon which to drive. The Department of Public Works
will also remove snow and ice from City-owned parking
lots and parking decks, sidewalks at City facilities,
sidewalks on City bridges, and other City facilities.
The
Mayor of the City of Frederick can declare a Snow Emergency
at any point when the following events occur; large
accumulation of snowfall, poor driving conditions, or
a declaration of a Snow Emergency by the State of Maryland
or Frederick County. Additional conditions may also
trigger a declaration of a Snow Emergency.
If
the Mayor declares a Snow Emergency for the City of
Frederick, media will be notified. Check your local
radio stations, Channel 99, the City website, and the
Emergency Public Information Line for announcements.
If a Snow Emergency is declared, facts relating to parking
restrictions, driving restrictions, etc, will be provided.
During
a Snow Emergency City residents are not permitted to
park on designated Snow Emergency Routes. Any vehicles
parked on these streets may be towed at the owner's
expense. Vehicles traveling on Snow Emergency Routes
will also be required to use snow tires or chains.
