MAYOR DOUGHERTY TO ANNOUNCE WINNERS OF MAYOR'S CHALLENGE TO MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS AND STUDENTS

Frederick, Md. --- City of Frederick Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty will announce the winner's of her inaugural Mayor's Challenge tomorrow! The challenges were aimed toward inspiring local students to be more informed citizens today so that tomorrow they can become leaders.

Date: Wednesday, December 17, 2003

Time: 9 a.m.

Where: The Banner School

Mayor Dougherty created these contests after being inspired by her 6th grade teacher, Deborah Martin. Both challenges have been met. The first by a teacher who crated a classroom or take-home project focusing on learning local or national current events. The second Mayor's Challenge invited middle school students to write a biographical "People Paper" on a person of national or international importance.

The winning teacher will receive a $500 savings bond. The first place student will win a $250 savings bond; second place a $100 savings bond; and finally third place a $50 savings bond.
