TRAFFIC FLOW for CAF Wings of Freedom Air Show on August 16-17, 2003

The CAF Wings of Freedom Air Show will be held at the Frederick Municipal Airport, located in the East end of the City. In anticipation of a large volume of citizens attending this year’s events, the Frederick Police Department would like to advise citizens of the traffic flow in the surrounding areas so they may take alternative routes to relieve congestion and ensure they reach their destination in a timely fashion.

Hughes Ford Road will be closed to all traffic. VIP passes and handicap vehicles must use Monocacy Blvd. All other persons will be directed to the Frederick County Fairgrounds for parking.

Citizens will be allowed to park at the Fairgrounds beginning at 8:00 AM on both mornings. We are asking citizens to please use East Patrick Street or Highland Avenue to access the parking areas.

(1) Bailes Lane and Monocacy Blvd. at Bucheimer will be closed to all traffic except local business owners.

(2) Shuttle buses will be traveling a circular route from the fairgrounds. They will travel southbound on Monroe, eastbound on E. Patrick St., northbound on Monocacy Blvd.to Hughes Ford Road and then continuing until they reach the fairgrounds parking lot.

At approximately 5:00 PM at the conclusion of the show, the following routes will be established:

(1) Traffic exiting the west gate of the Fairgrounds onto E. Patrick St. will be directed westbound into the City.

(2) Traffic exiting the main gate of the Fairgrounds onto E. Patrick St. will be directed southbound on Franklin Street toward E. South St

(3) Traffic exiting the Fairground gate (Westside) on Highland Ave. will go westbound toward Church St.

(4) Traffic traveling southbound on Monocacy Blvd. at E. Patrick St. will travel either eastbound to Rt. 144 or southbound to the ramp to I-70. Traffic will not be allowed westbound on East Patrick St.

The Frederick Police Department urges all citizens coming to Frederick between 4:00 - 6:00 PM to enter the City via South Jefferson Street, West Patrick Street, Motter Ave., or North Market Street. Traffic will be heavy in the area of East Patrick Street, South Street, and S. Market St. so citizens should expect delays. Please remain patient. The Police Department will do its utmost to restore traffic to a normal flow as soon as possible.
