TRAFFIC
FLOW for CAF Wings of Freedom Air Show on August 16-17,
2003
The
CAF Wings of Freedom Air Show will be held at the Frederick
Municipal Airport, located in the East end of the City.
In anticipation of a large volume of citizens attending
this years events, the Frederick Police Department
would like to advise citizens of the traffic flow in
the surrounding areas so they may take alternative routes
to relieve congestion and ensure they reach their destination
in a timely fashion.
Hughes
Ford Road will be closed to all traffic. VIP passes
and handicap vehicles must use Monocacy Blvd. All other
persons will be directed to the Frederick County Fairgrounds
for parking.
Citizens
will be allowed to park at the Fairgrounds beginning
at 8:00 AM on both mornings. We are asking citizens
to please use East Patrick Street or Highland Avenue
to access the parking areas.
(1)
Bailes Lane and Monocacy Blvd. at Bucheimer will be
closed to all traffic except local business owners.
(2)
Shuttle buses will be traveling a circular route from
the fairgrounds. They will travel southbound on Monroe,
eastbound on E. Patrick St., northbound on Monocacy
Blvd.to Hughes Ford Road and then continuing until they
reach the fairgrounds parking lot.
At
approximately 5:00 PM at the conclusion of the show,
the following routes will be established:
(1)
Traffic exiting the west gate of the Fairgrounds onto
E. Patrick St. will be directed westbound into the City.
(2)
Traffic exiting the main gate of the Fairgrounds onto
E. Patrick St. will be directed southbound on Franklin
Street toward E. South St
(3)
Traffic exiting the Fairground gate (Westside) on Highland
Ave. will go westbound toward Church St.
(4)
Traffic traveling southbound on Monocacy Blvd. at E.
Patrick St. will travel either eastbound to Rt. 144
or southbound to the ramp to I-70. Traffic will not
be allowed westbound on East Patrick St.
The
Frederick Police Department urges all citizens coming
to Frederick between 4:00 - 6:00 PM to enter the City
via South Jefferson Street, West Patrick Street, Motter
Ave., or North Market Street. Traffic will be heavy
in the area of East Patrick Street, South Street, and
S. Market St. so citizens should expect delays. Please
remain patient. The Police Department will do its utmost
to restore traffic to a normal flow as soon as possible.
