FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The
Carroll Creek Task Force and The City of Frederick Department
of Economic Development are pleased to host a Carroll
Creek Park Public Open House, Tuesday August 12th at
the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center, 40 South
Carroll Street, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Members of the
Frederick community are invited to review the park design
plans and development standards generated thus far and
provide input into the design process.
Participation
from the community is a critical component to the success
of Carroll Creek Park improvements. The Carroll Creek
Task Force invites any interested members of the Frederick
community to join the Task Force and the project consultants
(LDR International) at this evening public session on
August 12th as the City moves forward with final implementation
designs for Carroll Creek Park.
In
addition to the evening public open house, there will
be an interactive, hands-on design charrette during
the day. The charrette will be held from 9:30 am to
4:00 pm at the Delaplaine with key community stakeholders,
the Carroll Creek Task Force and the consultants regarding
the design-specific elements of creekscape and development
standards along Carroll Creek Park. The daylong charrette
is open to the public.
Completion
of the Carroll Creek Park has been a central theme of
residents and businesses all across the City since the
construction of the Carroll Creek Flood Control Project
in the late 1980s. To that end, the City administration
has made this important capital improvement projects
a critical implementation effort.
In
December 2002, Mayor Dougherty appointed a broad-based
ad-hoc Carroll Creek Task Force to move the project
forward from its current position. Mr. Dick Kessler,
a long-time downtown merchant and one of the initial
community leaders involved in the Carroll Creek Project,
chairs the new Task Force. The City Department of Economic
Development provides staff facilitation.
With a current budget of over $3.57 million, including
both City CIP funds and a State of Maryland grant, all
design and engineering for the park improvements will
be complete by Spring 2003, with a portion of the construction
slated to begin Summer 2004.
This
is an exciting time for the Frederick community as the
vision of Carroll Creek Park comes to fruition! Support
from and collaboration with residents, business owners
and other key stakeholders in The City of Frederick
is vital to this project. For more information on the
Carroll Creek Project, please contact the Department
of Economic Development at 301.698.8118.
