Frederick, Md. --- In a three nil vote this morning the City of Frederick’s Water Service Committee approved the adoption of Administrative Guidelines for citywide water allocation. In November 2002 the Board of Aldermen voted unanimously in favor of the City’s first ever Water Allocation Ordinance. The Administrative Guidelines were the final step needed before being able to allocate water. A copy of the Administrative Guidelines can be found on the City’s website, www.cityoffrederick.com.
“It is a relief that we have reached this point. Everyone has been working so hard to develop a plan, a law, a set of guidelines so that we do not find ourselves in this position again,” stated Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty. “Now we finally get to implement our plan to allocate water and move forward with reasonable and controlled growth.”
Last week the City was granted MDE approval of our Mountain Sources Operational Water Management that resulted in 260,000gpd of allocable water. The Water Service Committee will hold a Special Meeting, tomorrow, Thursday, April 3, at 10 a.m., in the Board Room of City Hall, to issue Water Service Contracts based upon the percentages set forth in the November 2002 Water Allocation Ordinance.
