CITY OF FREDERICK ANNOUNCES
SEPTEMBER 11TH TRIBUTE PLANNED
Frederick, Md. --- As our County begins its preparations for the
first anniversary of the terrorist attacks that took on September 11th;
the City of Frederick announces plans for a tribute. Tributes will take place at Baker Park throughout the day on
Wednesday, September 11th, with a main event commencing, at 7 p.m.,
at the Baker Park Band Shell.
Mayor Jennifer Dougherty recently commented
on the City of Frederick’s plans to remember this tragic day in our Country’s
history, “Throughout the City people are eager to commemorate the events of
last September and we think this is a great way to celebrate our community
strength and honor those who have passed away.”
Events
at Memorial Grounds on Bentz Street:
5 p.m. Selections by the Bernetta R. Brown Liturgical Choir
Rev. Burton Mack Pastor
6 – 6:30 p.m. Rev. Conyers will speak and the Grace Penecostal Choir will perform.
At
the Gazebo in Baker Park:
Two ladder trucks from the City fire companies will be stationed at the base of the Baker
Park Band Shell, ladders extended and draped in a large American flag. Engine #62 and
the crew of Engine #62 will also participate. This company was one of the many which
responded and actually assisted at the Pentagon.
5:15 p.m. Sherry Watkins and the Banner School Choir will perform the original song, "Stand Up America".
6 – 6:30 p.m. Patriotic Music performed by the Harmony Coronet Band.
6:30 p.m. Activities cease at all sites. The community will proceed to the Baker Park Band Shell area where members of local Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts will escort Mayor Jennifer Dougherty, officials, and dignitaries to the stage at the Band Shell.
6:40 – 7 p.m. John Widmann, City Carilloneur, will perform a concert of patriotic music.
7 p.m. Main program begins with Mayor Jennifer Dougherty addressing the community reflecting on the events that surrounded September of 2001 and looking into the future.
Innovation by Rev. Paul Mundey, Senior Pastor, Frederick Church of the Brethren.
First Reading by Claire Fredericks, Youth Essay Contest Winner, Recognized by Ft. Detrick: “Personal Remembrance”.
Second Reading by City of Frederick Chief of Police, Kim Dine.
Third reading by Sgt. Michelle Robertson, Biological Sciences Assistant, at Fort Detrick. Awarded NCO of the Quarter for the 2nd quarter in 2001 and the USAMRIID NCO of the Year for 2001-2002: “The American Creed”
Fourth Reading by Commissioner Terre Rhoderick.
Fifth Reading by Stan Poole, Frederick County’s Director of Emergency Services. Mr. Poole will ask Sgt. George Thomas, IV, to read the Fireman’s Creed.
Congressman Roscoe Bartlett will perform the final reading of the evening.
At this time the Memorial portion of the evening will begin. All are asked to bring your own candles, which will be lit.
The litany of September 11th 2001 events will be read. Beginning with the first plane, which crashed into the World Trade Center, and ending with the fall of the towers. After each event is read the Carillon will toll one bell.
The carillon will toll once more for personal reflections and intentions.
A moment of silence.
Taps will be played by Richard Marion, Ft. Detrick Color Guard- United States Air Force Master Sergeant.
Mayor Jennifer Dougherty will conclude the evening with the retirement of the Colors and the singing of God Bless America.

Also, please note the involvement of the Frederick County Red Cross, Leo McHale, the Flags for Honor, and the U.S. Postal Service whom will 'unveil' the "Heroes" stamp.
