CITY OF FREDERICK PURCHASES
HISTORIC LOG CABIN IN
SETTLEMENT
Frederick, Md. --- In a Settlement Agreement
dated October 2, 2002, The City of Frederick agreed to purchase a two-story log
structure, located at 527 North Market Street, from Junior Fire Company No. 2,
Inc.
The
Settlement, which occurred after 20 months of dialogue, is a result of Junior
Fire Company No. 2’s initial application to the Historic District Commission to
demolish the structure. That request
was denied citing the historic significance of the structure. The fire company then filed a Petition for
Judicial Review.
Under
the Settlement Agreement the property will be subdivided and the City will
purchase a parcel on land with approximate dimensions of 24.85 ft x 80.50 ft
and log cabin with non-City Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds
totaling $32,000 minus half the amount expended by the City for appraisal,
survey work and subdivision. The
purchase price is based upon the fair market appraisal value. The City of
Frederick intends to rehabilitate the log cabin structure for modern usage.
