Frederick, Md. --- The City of Frederick is currently seeking interested and qualified individuals to serve on its Industrial Development Authority.

In 1994 under authority of the State of Maryland Economic Development Revenue Bond Act, the City of Frederick created an Industrial Development Authority (IDA).  The IDA has been dormant since its establishment.  As part of the recent July 2002 creation of the new City Department of Economic Development (DED), the Mayor and Board of Aldermen reauthorized for IDA.  According to Resolution 94-2 and the subsequent approved bylaws the purpose of the IDA is:

1.  Relief of conditions of unemployment; and

2.  Encouragement of increase of industry and commerce and a balanced economy; and

3.  Assistance in retention of existing industry and commerce and in the attraction of new industry and commerce through, among other things, port development and the control, reduction, or abatement of pollution of the environment and the utilization and disposal of wastes; and

4.  Promotion of Economic Development; and

5.  Protection of natural resources and encouragement of resource recovery; and

6.  Generally the promotion of the health, welfare, and safety of its residents.

The IDA is to be governed by a Board of Directors, which shall consist of five voting directors appointed by the Board of Aldermen of The City of Frederick from nominations submitted by the Mayor.  The Board shall further consist of three non-voting ex-officio directors, who shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Mayor and need not be confirmed by or approved by the Board of Aldermen.  Each voting director shall serve a five-year term.

The City is now accepting letters of interest and resumes from the residents and businesspersons in the City interested in serving on the IDA.  Persons interested in the serving on the IDA Board should send a letter explaining their interest along with a resume by January 15, 2003 to: Richard G. Griffin, AICP, Director of Economic Development (DED), 104 N. Court Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701.  For questions, please call the DED Office, at 301.698.8118.
