Frederick, Md. --- The City of Frederick is pleased to announce a reduction in Part 1 offenses at the John Hansen/Taney Apartment complexes since June 1, 2001 as a result of a Pole Mounted Video Surveillance system. There has been a noticeable decrease in the amount of drug activity, loitering and littering within the communities, which has resulted in an increased quality of life for the residents.
At the Thursday, November 21st Public Meeting, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen will publicly thank the following agencies and personnel for their participation in this project.
Adelphia Communications assisted the Police Department with this project by providing assistance in planning, technical expertise and materials. They donated over 6,000 feet of cable and mounting hardware totaling over $2,500.00. They provided advise to Department of Public Works personnel on the proper hanging and installation of the cable and assisted with technical questions regarding troubleshooting problems.
Allegheny Power assisted the Police Department in this project by donating the electric to power the cameras and providing technical assistance. They assisted City of Frederick Department of Public Works personnel with the installation and wiring of the cameras.

Personnel from the Frederick Department of Public Works, Streets & Lighting Division, provided assistance to the Frederick Police Department with the Pole Mounted Surveillance Cameras that were erected in the John Hanson/Taney Apartment complex. The assistance consisted of managing manpower to assist with the planning, installation and the running of cable for the system. Due to unanticipated technical glitches within the system, personnel from the Streets and Lighting Division were called upon several times to assist OFC Hanner in trouble shooting the problems.

The Housing Authority of the City of Frederick is responsible for managing the John Hanson/Taney Apartment complex and assisted in the planning and development phase of the project. They provided money totaling $12,000.00 that helped in the purchase of equipment and materials. They also assisted by providing maintenance personnel to assist with the project.

Marketing Association
Mr. Steve Pennington from the Chesapeake Marketing Association provided technical training to departmental members on the digital recording system in order to better utilize all the functions it has to offer. The training provided will allow the best use of the cameras in order to better monitor the John Hanson/Taney apartment complex.
