MARKS AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK

WITH SCHOOL VISITS

Frederick, Md. --- City of Frederick Mayor Jennifer Dougherty will celebrate the 81st annual observance of American Education Week — November 17-23, with a number of visits to area schools. American Education Week is a time for saluting public schools and the relationships between teachers, students and parents. The National Education Association (NEA), in collaboration with the American Legion and other organizations, established American Education Week in 1921 as a way to draw public attention to the needs of schools.

Mayor Dougherty’s Schedule of School Visits includes:

• Monday, November 18 - Mayor Dougherty will spend her lunch hour, between 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., with the children from Parkway Elementary School.

• Wednesday, November 20 - At 8:45 p.m. the Mayor be a guest on Hillcrest Elementary School’s morning televised broadcast. The Mayor will then view parts of the school’s annual project fair.

• Wednesday, November 20 – Beginning at 1:55 p.m., the Mayor be speak to first graders at Monocacy Elementary School about her career in politics, as well as in the private business sector.

• Friday, November 22 - The Mayor will accompany the City’s Education Commission to Governor Thomas Johnson High School at 9:30 a.m. The Education Commission will be presenting a check to the Safe and Sane Committee.

• Friday, November 22 - The Mayor will accompany the City’s Education Commission to Frederick High School at 3:30 p.m. The Education Commission will be presenting a check to the Safe and Sane Committee.

City of Frederick public schools, or public schools which serve residents of the City of Frederick include; Frederick High School, Governor Thomas Johnson High School, Governor Thomas Johnson Middle School, Monocacy Middle School, West Frederick Middle School, Hillcrest Elementary School, Monocacy Elementary School, North Frederick Elementary School, Parkway Elementary School, South Frederick Elementary School, Waverly Elementary School, Spring Ridge Elementary School and Whittier Elementary School.
