CITY’S THIRD ANNUAL RENOVATOR’S ROUNDTABLE TO FOCUS ON COMMERCIAL REHABILITATION MAY 11
The
City of Frederick will be holding its third annual Renovators’ Roundtable
workshop on
May
11, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center.
The
City’s Planning Department and the Greater Frederick Development Corporation
Main Street Program are the sponsors of Renovators’ Roundtable. The program is
funded by an Educational Set-Aside grant from the Maryland Historical Trust.
“This
year’s workshop will focus on commercial rehabilitation,” stated Barbara Wyatt,
City Historic Preservation Planner. “There will be several sessions that will
examine the architectural character of downtown, such as the rehabilitation of
commercial buildings from sidewalk to rooftop, new construction, and tax
advantages available for rehabilitation projects.”
Tony
Checchia, HDC Vice-Chairman, will moderate the program. Presenters include
architects
Gary Baker and Eleanor Lakin, Tom McGrath, director of the Historic
Preservation Training Center and Bernie Callan, president of the Maryland
Association of Historic District Commissions.
A
lunchtime program will give participants the opportunity to meet in small
groups with architects, planners and members of the Historic District
Commission (HDC). Attendees are encouraged to come prepared with questions and
concerns and to bring photos and drawings.
“Although
the focus of this year’s program is commercial architecture, owners of other
types of historic properties are encouraged to attend,” stated Wyatt. “Much of
the information is applicable to all historic properties.”
Advance
registration is required by May 9 by contacting Linda Gravitt at 301-696-2995.
The
program is free and lunch is provided.
