RESTORATION OF
CHURCH STREET PARKING DECK BEGINS MARCH 11
Restoration work on the Church Street parking deck will begin on March 11, 2002 and continue through July 11. The parking deck will remain open during the majority of the restoration process.
At any given time 100 parking spaces will be unavailable due to renovation. Users of the facility need to be alert to varying traffic patterns throughout the deck. “We ask that people drive slowly and observe new signage that will be installed,” stated Fred Eisenhart, Director of Public Works. “We also strongly encourage drivers to be aware of the people working in the parking deck.”
According to Mr. Eisenhart, “It may be necessary to close the deck three to four weekends. We are working with the contractor on the project schedule and will certainly alert the public in advance of the deck being closed.”
Monthly parkers can continue to park in the deck as usual except for Frederick County Government employees who will temporarily park in other locations. “The County Commissioners are assisting the City with this project by agreeing to relocate their employees that use this deck,” remarked Mayor Jennifer Dougherty. “The City is very appreciative that the County offered to help us in this matter. Their support means less disruption for our citizens and visitors who use this facility during the restoration period.”
The Church Street parking deck has not had any major renovations for twenty-seven years. “This much-needed restoration will ensure the integrity and the safety of this garage,” stated Mayor Dougherty. “Anytime we improve one of our City facilities we improve the quality of life for our citizenry.”
