CITY OF FREDERICK
NOTIFIED BY FORT DETRICK
ON WELL-DRILLING
ACTIVITY
On Wednesday, March 13, The City of Frederick was advised by Fort Detrick that well-drilling activities were starting on Monday, March 18, 2002. Eight monitoring wells will be placed in various locations on the post.
According to the Fort’s spokeswoman, the wells will determine groundwater flow and levels of fuel oil. In 1995, the Fort replaced underground fuel oil tanks due to leakage. The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) has advised Fort officials that there is no health risk associated with this situation.
“I am pleased that Fort Detrick notified the City about this issue before work started,” stated Mayor Dougherty. “Prompt communication such as this demonstrates the Fort’s commitment to being a good neighbor.”
