MAYOR DOUGHERTY’S WEEKLY NEWS CONFERENCE

 

Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty will hold her weekly news conference on Tuesday, February 12 at 10 AM in the Board Room of City Hall. The following items will be discussed:

 

ACTIVITIES FROM LAST WEEK:

 

  1. Water situation: Mayor Dougherty visited the Maryland Department of the Environment last Tuesday with Jeff Holtzinger, City Director of Engineering. On Friday, the Mayor issued an Executive Order declaring a moratorium on subdivision plat recordation, annexations, and building permits. This Order continues an existing moratorium from March 27, 2001 and extended on August 15, 2001. Mayor Dougherty’s Executive Order includes a moratorium on building permits.
  2. Smart Growth: On Thursday, Mayor Dougherty met with Secretary Harriot Tregoning from the Governor’s Office of Smart Growth. A review of the Smart Growth initiative and the effect of The City of Frederick was discussed.
  3. Homeless on Frederick Brick Works Property: Representatives from the Maryland School for the Deaf and Frederick Brick Works met with Mayor Dougherty on Wednesday to discuss their concerns and potential solutions for the homeless tent campers.
  4. The Golden Mile Task Force: Mayor Dougherty met with the newly established Golden Mile Task Force on Monday to discuss the strategy for redeveloping the Route 40 city and business community.
  5. HOPE VI Project: The Director of the Housing Authority and community representatives met with Mayor Dougherty to establish a steering committee for the Hope VI Project.

 

 

LOOKING AHEAD:

  1. Visits to Elementary Schools: This week the Mayor will be visiting five different area elementary schools to promote the Maryland Municipal League’s (MML) “If I Were Mayor… essay contest. The contest is part of the MML’s Municipal Government Week in April. Part of this promotion will be teaching the students about the role of the Mayor.
  2. Community Roundtables continue: The Mayor will continue her series of community roundtables with follow-up visits held at South Frederick Elementary School on Monday, February 11, 6-9 PM and North Frederick Elementary School on Tuesday, February 12, 7-9 PM.
