CITY OF FREDERICK ANNOUNCES

COMMISSION AND BOARD VACANCIES

 

Frederick, Md. --- The City of Frederick has vacancies on the following Commissions and Boards; Personnel Commission, Historic District Commission, Planning Commission, Ethics Commission, Plumbing Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Weinberg Center for the Arts Board of Directors, and the Airport Commission.  

 

Responsibilities of the Personnel Commission include advising the Mayor, Board of Aldermen, and the Chief Officer of Human Resources and Administrative Services, on all problems concerning personnel administration. The candidates must be able to make investigations concerning the administration of personnel in the municipal service and reports findings. The Personnel Commission also hears appeals in cases of employee suspension, demotion, or removal.  There are currently two vacancies; one full and one alternate. 

 

The role of the Ethics Commission is devise, receive, and maintain all forms generated by the Ethics chapter of the City Charter. Commission members provide opinions to persons subject to the chapter and processes and make determinations as to complaints alleging violations of the Ethics Chapter. Members of this committee are also responsible for conducting public information programs regarding the purposes of the Ethics Chapter, as well as to reviews all bids on any city contract submitted by any city official or employee, or by any business in which either is interested.  There is currently one vacancy on this board.

 

The Mayor is seeking two master plumbers to fill open vacancies on the Plumbing Board.  Responsibilities include; making recommendations of regulations for the conduct of the business of plumbing in the City and a standard of quality of all materials and workmanship used in plumbing work and the manner of installation. This board sits as a board of arbitration with respect to any disputes that arise involving an interpretation of provisions in the Plumbing Chapter of the City Charter.

 

The City is also seeking a resident to serve as an alternate for the Planning Commission.  This group is responsible for developing and amending a master plan for the physical development of the City. They exercise control over subdividing the city and drafts official maps. They also prepare and adopt a zoning plan and recommend or disapprove proposed changes to that plan. The Planning Commission is also responsible for the annual submission of a list of recommended capital improvements for the budget year.

 

The City is also seeking one alternate to serve on the Historic District Commission.  Responsibilities of this commission include reviewing and making considerations of any application for any type of construction, alteration, reconstruction, moving, or demolition on any structure within the historic district.

 

The City is also seeking members to serve on the Weinberg Center Board of Directors.  This board is responsible for the fundraising and advocacy of The Weinberg Center, as well as establishing the goals and direction for the programming.

 

The Parks and Recreation Commission has a vacancy as well.  This commission develops and recommends to the Planning Commission, Mayor, and Board of Aldermen, a master parks plan. Makes recommendations concerning equipment, design, supervision, and operations of all city parks, recreation areas and facilities. Approves the use of all city parks, recreation areas, and facilities not requiring the expenditure of City funds. Recommends the approval of the use of such facilities should the use require the expenditure of City funds.

 

The Frederick Municipal Airport Commission is requesting interested individuals in the position of “Multi-User Representative.”  This position is one of seven voting seats on the Airport Commission Board, which meets on the fourth Thursday of each month with regular attendance being mandatory.  Members of this board analyze and review subject matter pertaining and promoting the Frederick Municipal Airport, as well as participate in financial matters that will provide revenue streams that will benefit and assist in marketing the airport.  Resumes, as well as a letter of interest for this board is due no later than August 12.

 

Anyone interested in serving on one of the City of Frederick Commissions or Boards is asked to submit a current resume, with a letter of interest indicating which Commission or Board you are interested in.  Forward this information to Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty no later than September 1, 2002.
