CITY’S COMPREHENSIVE PLAN STEERING COMMITTEE TO MEET MAY 1

The first meeting of The City of Frederick’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, in the Masonic Temple at 24 West Church Street.

The Steering Committee is comprised of 21 residential, business and government leaders who will assist in the development of a new Comprehensive Plan for the City.

“Some of the Steering Committee members were selected because they showed an interest in getting involved in City issues during our Roundtable community meetings,” stated Mayor Jennifer Dougherty. “Their input into the City’s Comprehensive Plan will insure that the desires and needs of the neighborhoods are heard.”

Residential representatives of the Steering Committee include Trish Brooks, George Yourick, Jr., Bob Lawrence, Michael Spencer, Carl Robin, Catherine Gullion, Ruth Nicholson and Ronald Luerson. Robert Smariga, Richard Griffin, Jim MacGillivray, Karl Morris, Ed Scott and Joe Donegan represent the business community. Alderman Marsha Hall, Dr. George Smith, Sally Hales, Dan Lawton, Michael Watkins, Carole Larsen and Chuck Boyd will serve as government representatives.

The Committee is expected to complete the new Comprehensive Plan for the City by spring 2003.

“Once prepared, the Comprehensive Plan will provide the means for guiding and influencing the many public and private decisions that create the future of the City,” stated Planning Director Chuck Boyd. “The Plan will be an expression of what our community wants and will include goals, objectives and a vision of what might be.”
