NAC Area 7 Monthly Meeting July 5, 2005 - 7 p.m. Staley Park Pavilion

Members Present: Gail Bradley, Mike Bradley, Claudia Winkelman, and Marie Zinnert
City Representatives Present: Sara McGill
Citizens Present: Byron Schwartz, Ken Berlin, Doris Frey, Bob Cole, Earl Smith, and Pat Wachter
Police Representative: Sergeant Hansell and Corporal Sommers

The meeting was called to order by Gail Bradley and introductions were made of all present.

Sarah McGill announced the following:

1. Sarah would like to discontinue attending monthly meetings for the established NACs so that she can help the NACs who are not organized. She said there would still be someone from another department attending the meeting.
Gail questioned why isn’t Vinnie Hughes stepping up to help the NACs who aren’t organized.
Ken Berlin suggested that the smaller NACs could meet quarterly.
Gail said we should email suggestions to Sarah.

2. Grass cutting brigade is being formed for the elderly, ill, or disabled who can’t mow. Someone called codes on a cancer patient. Anyone interested in helping can contact the city and find information on the website.

3. Budget this year is $1250 per NAC. Each person should bring 3 ideas for a project and we will prioritize.

Gail Bradley asked Byron if he wrote a letter regarding the noise from the new trash trucks. Byron said the trucks are coming during the day so the noise in the middle of the night is no longer an issue.

Individuals that put out more trash than allowed, are to be charged extra.. There is a business in the home on 12th Street that puts out excessive trash.

Sergeant Hansell :

1. Sergeant Hansell asked if there were any major concerns. Illegal fireworks, as well as a party with excessive noise in Staley park were voiced. Speakers were set up in the park. Sergeant Hansell said noise can be enforced anytime of the day.

2. There has been nothing new on the update for our area.

3. A citizen voiced a concern of the speeding at 9th, Aztec, and Geronimo

Corporal Sommers:

1. School bus violations (cars passing buses when they shouldn’t) on Shifferstadt.

2. Continue to voice our opinion about getting more officers…..injuries, retirements, etc. are causing a shortage. Juvenile crime has increased, patrol squads are smaller, lost 3 civilian positions and 1 was maintenance.

New Business:

Left hand turns at Market and Harry Grove are dangerous. During rush hours, maybe there should be right hand turns only.

Marie asked about collecting food at the booth during the Sunday concerts. Amy Riley w/ Special Events coordinates volunteers.

The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.

The next meeting will be August 2nd, 7 p.m., Staley Park .

Sincerely,

Claudia J. Winkelman
Secretary
