NAC Area 7 Monthly Meeting June 7, 2005 - 7 p.m. North Frederick Elementary School

Members Present: Don Dean, Gail Bradley, Mike Bradley, and Claudia Winkelman
City Representatives Present: Sara McGill
Citizens Present: Bryon Schwartz, Evelyn Koch, Ken Berlin, Jean & Walt Fry, Bob Cole, and Carl Woodcock
Police Representative: Officer Pyon

The meeting was called to order by Don Dean and introductions were made of all present.

Officer Pyon reported:

1. There have been a rash of flat tires along Motter. A group of Walkersville kids were responsible for slashed tires.

2. There was a big drug bust on Cheyene.

3. Citizens voiced concerns such as: patrol of parks after 11 p.m., speeding and not stopping at stop signs, lug nuts taken off wheels, and dirt bikes.

Sarah reported;
1. We have $160 left in our budget. We decided to do an advertisement and have refreshments at our next meeting.

2. Mike Blank is in the military and will be gone for a year. The city is trying to set up one phone number that goes to a processing center.

Don brought up Mr. Leadingham’s letter stating the area around the 7th Street Fountain is not being maintained, and the city looks like a dump from Market and 7th. Sarah said she brought the issue to DPW. We could consider the area for a clean up project.

Other issues discussed:
1. Contact DPW about getting signs that tell you which night you can/cannot park.
2. New trash trucks are loud. Bob Wilkerson is no longer with the city. Gerard Palmer is filling in. Brian Schwartz will draft a letter.
3. After July, the NACs may get a $1250 budget.
4. Project ideas: fountain clean up, senior center on Motter, landscaping in the triangle at East and Market, fundraiser for radar guns, assisting area schools.
5. Walt Frey has never met an alderman and wondered about communication with the Aldermen.
6. Pathway stops at Power lines, why does it not continue to Monocacy Park. Claudia will try to find out who owns the property.
7. We need to have “give aways” (ex: pencils, rulers, magnets) for the NAC booth at Inn the Streets.
8. There could be community grants for radar guns.
9. Sarah is in the Frederick Magazine!

Our next meeting is July 5th at 7 p.m., Staley Park (big pavilion)

Sincerely,

Claudia J. Winkelman
